Local notes

For Chicago fleets with many units in one yard, a lot check avoids sending each truck through expressway traffic to a shop.

Units based in the city often show salt corrosion on brake hardware, frames, and wiring, so the annual inspection is a good time to catch it.

Illinois has its own truck safety test program run by IDOT. Tests are done at Official Testing Stations or by official mobile safety testing companies at the place of business of the vehicle owner, and the required interval depends on the vehicle. The federal annual inspection and the Illinois safety test are separate requirements. All Fleet Inc repairs brakes, lights, and other items so a unit is ready for its test at an official testing station.

The federal inspection report must be kept for 14 months (49 CFR 396.21).

Mobile repair in Chicago comes from the team at our Lake Bluff, IL shop, within our typical service area, typically a 90-minute ETA or less.

We will give you an exact arrival time once your service call is set up.

Questions

Is the federal inspection the same as the Illinois safety test?

No. They are separate requirements.

Can you inspect trailers at a Chicago drop lot?

Yes. Send a list of trailer numbers and the lot address, and we will schedule a time for a technician to inspect them where they sit.

Can you inspect during off-hours so trucks stay in service?

Ask our team when you schedule. Our phone line is answered after hours too, and yard inspections can be timed around your shifts.
